Big Article in the County Press

Last week the County Press did a big feature on choirs on the Island, which mainly focussed on us. There were many pictures taken at a rehearsal last month, as well as shots from the Isle of Wight Festival in 2010, when we performed with Melanie Safka, and from the Gospel Gold concert earlier this year. A number of members were interviewed and quoted. You can read the article online, but it is missing the photos taken at the rehearsal.

The Royal Marines Diamond Jubilee album that the Choir sang on was officially released on April 12th. If you haven’t yet bought a copy, get one now, and listen to the Choir singing on the Diamond Jubilee Tribute.

Album For Sale

It was just over a week ago that the Choir travelled over to Portsmouth at a very early time, and spent a long day laying down two tracks. It was incredibly hard work, singing with headphones on is at least disconcerting and it put many people off their regular rhythm.

I have not said what we were recording yet! It is an album by the Royal Marines Portsmouth Band to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the song we were mostly working on is an arrangement of God Save The Queen.

As the band had already recorded all of their music, it meant that our recording was done using their pre-recorded stuff, and we had to be exactly correct with all of our timing etc. I should add at this point that we were also working with a lovely girls choir from St Catherine’s Girls School near Guildford.

The album will be available from April 12th, and proceeds go to a couple of Royal Navy charities. It has a foreword by Princess Anne so it is a very serious release. You can order it now (please do!) from here.

The money raised from the CD goes to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

Day Trip to the Mainland

On Sunday the Choir are heading over to the mainland, very early in the morning. It’s an exciting project, one we’ve been rehearsing for throughout February and March. I cannot provide too much information at this stage, as it is a little hush-hush, but can reveal that we are recording our first single. It should be a thrill: big cans, big mics, big egos, all will be there!

The Island Community Glee Club are taking part in the televised finals of Sport Relief Does Glee Club which is airing on CBBC and BBC1 this week and next. This exciting competition has auditioned hundreds of glee clubs nationwide and the Island Community Glee Club are through to the last 24. Appearing as Soundwave, find out how they get on by watching their episode on CBBC on Wednesday at 4:30pm or on BBC1 on Thursday at 4pm. Well they get through to the semi-finals? Which songs did they sing? Make sure you watch to see these talented young islanders perform on a national stage.

New Audio Files

Rehearsal

This post is mainly for Choir members. Today’s rehearsal (as Monday is now today), will feature two new pieces, Superstition and Touch Me in the Morning. Both feature soloists and the Choir is mostly backing vocals. Don’t worry if you haven’t seen the music by email, copies will be available at rehearsal.
