Summer is Over

This week was the first rehearsal for our Christmas season, singing carols in a warm September’s evening. It marks the end of our summer ‘off’, although a summer break for this Choir has not happened for many years. This summer we’ve had two weddings, a recital to feature in, and given the only performance at the cancelled Classic Isle event. That’s meant rehearsals have continued through the holidays. Next summer will be as busy, with the next tour to France in the planning for 2017.

So a big welcome to our new members, and here’s to a great Christmas 2016 season.

More Christmas!

Last weekend we had three performances – Waitrose’s Christmas evening, a carol concert at Quay Arts and our main concert at Medina Theatre. You might think that with all that effort we were done for the Christmas season, but think again, you still have a chance to hear the Choir sing beautiful carols.

Tomorrow evening we’re helping the Duke of York pub in Cowes celebrate the turning on of their Christmas tree lights. The singing starts at 6pm.

On Monday evening we are performing our full carol concert at Ventnor Baptist Church on Pier Street, at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £5.

We hope to see you at one of these events.

Busy Weekend

Last night a few members of the Choir sang at Waitrose’s Christmas event in East Cowes. As well as singing in their foyer, we also tried some flash mobs around their store, and also tucking into the samples they had on offer. Very tasty.

This afternoon we are singing with the NHS Nightingale choir at the Quay Arts centre in Newport. This is a traditional Christmas Carol concert, so if you want to get into the mood of the season, this is a definite must. The concert starts at 2:30pm, perfect if you are looking for something to do this afternoon.

Tomorrow is our main concert at Medina Theatre. We’re really pleased that tickets are selling well. If you want to come and along for our ecclectic mixture of modern and traditional with some crazy reindeer and spacemen as well, then quickly ring up Medina Theatre to book your tickets.

By Sunday evening we’ll all be exhausted but will have given our audiences lots of fun and good singing.

Starry Starry Night Colour

Twas The Night Before Christmas

Christmas Concerts

It’s still August, so sorry for bringing up the topic of Christmas. While everyone still hopes for an indian summer, the Choir will be restarting rehearsals in the middle of September. Our main Choir concert will be on 2nd December at Medina Theatre with the theme of ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and it will bring some surprises, along with traditional Christmas carols.

rm001Following on from our concert, we are taking part in a charity concert, for Diabetes Research IW, along with Resonate and the Royal Marines Association Concert Band. Again, this is sure to be a fab concert, with rip-roaring Christmas tunes in full brass style, as well as the excellence of Resonate, and ourselves, of course. Book now to avoid disappointment.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all of our readers and regular followers of the Choir. The members of the Choir were rather dropping like flies just before Christmas with our long festive season schedule, with many folks catching the various bugs going around, so the holidays were a very welcome time for some rest and recuperation. Nevertheless, we still had good numbers of folks at all of our Christmas engagements, creating a fantastic Christmas atmosphere wherever we sang.

After our rest over Christmas and New Year, the Choir restarts rehearsals this week, preparing for our July concert, which will feature music from the movies. There will be many new songs for the Choir to learn. We will also be starting on the repertoire for our summer tour to the Loire Valley in the next couple of months.

In terms of membership, we are still at capacity, and so still have a waiting list for ladies, which is currently about 30 people long. Men who would like to join continue to have the privilege of skipping the waiting list, as in common with many choirs we are always on the lookout for more men to keep the balance of sound.

Running Order for Carols ‘Cause We Care

The Choir are singing at Cowes Churches Carols ‘Cause We Care service on Thursday evening. We are singing some songs on our own, and the congregation will be joining in with some of the traditional carols. The service will have a retiring collection in aid of Frontline and the Isle of Wight Foodbank. It starts at 7pm at Cowes Methodist Church, Birmingham Road.

The running order is (those underlined are just the Choir):

Ding Dong Merrily on High
Angles’ Carol
O little town of Bethlehem
Mistletoe and Wine
In the bleak midwinter
Only a Winters Tale
Hark! the herald angels sing
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Silent night

O Come all ye faithful
Why not buy and extra present?
