As usual the Choir has a packed Christmas schedule. We’re all over the Island this season (even the mainland!), so be sure to come out and hear us sing. Our main gig should be the best Christmas concert you’ve ever heard!

The Choir put on another superb show, with fantastic assistance from the Red Tie Theatre Company, last night (even if we say so ourselves). We had great fun singing a real mix of songs, from The Jacksons to Hozier, via The Beautiful South and Madonna. There were plenty of laughs at the awkward social observations of the Jezza K participants. Curious to find out what happened? Maybe there will be a chance to get your own copy soon.
It’s just over a week to our summer concert – Jezza K the Musical. It’s another mix of comedy and fantastic songs. Tickets are available from Medina Theatre and, as is usual for the Choir, are very reasonably priced for an evening of entertainment.

Medina Community Choir will be performing Songs From The Heart with Russell Watson at
Shanklin Theatre on Monday 18th July 2016
2015 was a phenomenal year for Russell Watson, with a sell-out UK tour, special guest performances at
US National Memorial Day in Washington DC singing live to 350,000 people, the Caracalla Unicef Concert in Rome and BBC Proms In the Park – a staggering total of 92 live performances!
Russell’s career to date has seen some incredible achievements; his debut album ‘The Voice’ held simultaneous number 1 slots in the US and UK (a world first), spending a record breaking 52 weeks at number 1 in the UK. Russell has sold in excess of 7 million albums and won 4 Classical BRITS.
This year Russell will be recording a brand new album at Ennio Morricone’s studio in Rome. The album will include several original pieces co-written by Russell himself, and he will be joined by an impressive line-up of supporting musicians. Together with the magnificent orchestras of The Vatican and La Scala, Russell will be accompanied by Nigel Harrison (Blondie), Clive Deamer (Radiohead, Portishead), Danny Robinson, (Jimi Hendrix foundation), Mikey Rowe (Oasis, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying birds), and Gregory Darling (Julian Lennon).
The ‘Songs From The Heart’ tour will feature a stunning collection of our best loved songs, plus an exclusive preview of selected tracks from the forthcoming studio album.
Russell has always been a strong supporter of community choirs, especially after his time as a judge on the BBC prime time show ‘Last Choir Standing’. Russell enjoyed being part of the show immensely and as a result, last year’s Up Close & Personal tour featured local community choirs at each show. Following the success of the choirs last year, Russell is once again inviting local choirs to join him on stage.
“Last year’s choirs brought an added energy to the show, something you can only achieve when a range of voices come together as one, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to perform with local choirs once again this year” ~ Russell
Captivating to watch and enchanting to listen to, Russell continues to wow audiences with his enigmatic and entertaining live performances.
“He sings like Pavarotti, and entertains the audience like Sinatra” – NY Times

Today we sang with a choir from Denmark, whose name translates as the Beached Whales. A rather amusing name in English, but roughly means that same in Danish, a helpless stranded person. As this choir is from a sailing club, in the winter months they sing, and feel like helpless whales away from the sea.
The concert was in St Catherine’s Church in Ventnor, a fantastic venue on a lovely sunny day. The songs were a real mixture, covering 7 languages, as well as many genres: classical, gospel, Danish folk, sea songs, and show music. We all had great fun, as did the audience. To close the concert the two choirs sang together, giving a powerful rendition of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus.
Last weekend we had three performances – Waitrose’s Christmas evening, a carol concert at Quay Arts and our main concert at Medina Theatre. You might think that with all that effort we were done for the Christmas season, but think again, you still have a chance to hear the Choir sing beautiful carols.
Tomorrow evening we’re helping the Duke of York pub in Cowes celebrate the turning on of their Christmas tree lights. The singing starts at 6pm.
On Monday evening we are performing our full carol concert at Ventnor Baptist Church on Pier Street, at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £5.
We hope to see you at one of these events.
Last night a few members of the Choir sang at Waitrose’s Christmas event in East Cowes. As well as singing in their foyer, we also tried some flash mobs around their store, and also tucking into the samples they had on offer. Very tasty.
This afternoon we are singing with the NHS Nightingale choir at the Quay Arts centre in Newport. This is a traditional Christmas Carol concert, so if you want to get into the mood of the season, this is a definite must. The concert starts at 2:30pm, perfect if you are looking for something to do this afternoon.
Tomorrow is our main concert at Medina Theatre. We’re really pleased that tickets are selling well. If you want to come and along for our ecclectic mixture of modern and traditional with some crazy reindeer and spacemen as well, then quickly ring up Medina Theatre to book your tickets.
By Sunday evening we’ll all be exhausted but will have given our audiences lots of fun and good singing.
Details below. It will be the usual mix of great music and fantastic entertainment. Book your tickets now!
